1. Letter of the President
Marie Sandberg warns about recent scam letters and asks to report them as phishing. Sandberg also announces the call for panels for the upcoming SIEF congress in Aberdeen. Furthermore, she invites you to submit your best work for publication, either in one of SIEF‘s two flagship journals or in the new SIEF Series in Ethnology and Folklore.
2. SIEF2025 in Aberdeen
The call for papers & posters for SIEF2025 in Aberdeen, Scotland is now open and will run until December 17, 2024.

3. SIEF Young Scholar Prize 2025: Call
Call for Submissions of articles or book chapters to be considered for the SIEF Young Scholar Prize 2025, which will be presented at the congress in Aberdeen.
4. SIEF Series in Ethnology and Folklore
Hande Birkalan-Gedik and Anthony Bak Buccitelli announce the creation of the new SIEF Series in Ethnology and Folklore. New Directions in the Study of Everyday Life, Past and Present with Berghahn Books, and also introduce the international editorial board of the series.
5. Postscapes Matter – SIEF Summer School 2024
Report of the fifth SIEF Summer School 2024 “Postscapes Matter”, 23 - 27 September, Zagreb, Croatia.
6. Working Group on Archives

Together with the WG on Cultural Heritage and Property the WG organized the conference “Archives of Traditional Culture: 100 + 10”. It announces its continued engagement with the International Council on Archives, Section on University and Research Institution Archives and the launch of the Norwegian national digital tradition archive SAMLA.

The WG asks SIEF members for assistance in identifying the former administrator of its FB group. It also reports on its recent activities such as a variety of conferences and workshops and announces the event “What Can Be Done with All Those Inventoried Materials? - Archiving For ICH Safeguarding” as well as the symposium of the ICH NGO Forum.
8. Working Group in Feminist Approaches to Ethnology and Folklore
The WG reports on its first workshop and interim meeting held in Hólmavík, Iceland, engaging with the theme “‘Woman’ on Edge” and announces its next workshop to be in 2026. It also invites you to join its regular Zoom meetings reading/discussion groups.
9. Francophone Working Group
The WG reports about its 4th conference, jointly with the 34th conference of Euroethno, engaging with the theme of “Food cultures in Europe: everyday words and gestures”. The conference was held at the West University of Timișoara, Romania.
10. Working Group on Historical Approaches in Cultural Analysis
The WG reports on the conference “Reimagining Europe: De-colonizing Historical Imaginaries, Disciplinary Narratives in Folklore and Ethnology and Beyond”. The conference was held in Marburg, Germany.
11. Working Group on The Ritual Year
The WG welcomes you to its conference on “Food, Feasts, Festivities & Folklore”, which will be held from December 11–13, 2024 in Manila, Philippines.
12. Working Group on Space-lore and Place-lore
The WG announces the publication of a special issue on “Landscapes in Transition” in the journal Český lid / Czech Ethnological Journal (Issue 3, Vol. 111 (2024)), which originates from the 2023 SIEF Congress panel “Landscapes in Transition: Tracing the Past – Facing Uncertainties of the Future”.
13. European Ethnology in Switzerland
David Zimmer comments on the change of name of the former “Schweizerische Gesellschaft für Volkskunde” (Swiss Society for Popular Traditions) to “Empirische Kulturwissenschaft Schweiz” (EKWS) in German and “Anthropologie Culturelle Suisse” (ACS) in French.
