Dwellings- Behausungen

A group of artists from Göttingen (BBK) deals with different aspects of dwelling. They take a personal view to a topic that not only embraces concrete forms of living but also considers the question of political, climatic and cultural transitions on our rapidly changing planet. They present the results of their work in two exhibitions: one in the KWZ and one in the Gewölbekeller of the Künstlerhaus. These exhibitions display various artistic techniques and accompany the congress "Ways of Dwelling".

Ece Temelkuran (author/journalist/jurist, Turkey)
“Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.” This quote by George Santayana is the epigraph of Ece Temelkuran’s latest novel Silent Swans (HoCa 2017). In this book she paints an in-depth picture of the Turkish Civil War of 1980 from the perspectives of a politically committed family. The internationally acknowledged journalist and author of the novel What Good is Revolution if I Can’t Dance which has been translated into more than 20 languages was fired from her position at the newspaper Habertürk due to her critical attitude towards the government. At the event she will converse with journalist Günter Keil (Munich) in English, and both of them will read from her novel in Turkish as well as from the German and English translation.

Organised in cooperation with the Department of Culture Göttingen and SIEF (International Society for Ethnology and Folklore).
